Biography
Yuta Tamura
Born in Hyogo, Japan. Based in Kobe.
Yuta Tamura is a contemporary artist whose practice crosses multiple forms of expression, including two-dimensional works, semi-relief works, and installations. Throughout his career, he has explored diverse forms of expression, including pixel-based character works, abstract paintings, and paintings featuring plants as motifs. Currently, he primarily creates works using materials such as plants, soil, rope, and fabric.
Throughout Tamura’s practice, there has been a consistent attention toward the relationship between materials and existence, despite shifts in methods and media. Rather than treating materials as mere means of production, he engages with their inherent qualities and the passage of time, exploring how we might relate to things that are continuously changing.
Through diverse media and materials, Tamura’s works do not simply present fixed forms or completed states. Instead, they open up multiple ways of being through the transformations of materials and their relationships with viewers and the places in which they are exhibited.
田村 勇太｜Yuta Tamura
兵庫県生まれ。神戸市を拠点に活動。
田村勇太は、平面、半立体、インスタレーションなど複数の表現媒体を横断しながら制作を行う現代美術家である。これまで、ピクセル表現を用いたキャラクター作品や抽象絵画、植物をモチーフとした絵画作品など、多様な表現を展開してきた。現在は、植物や土、縄、布などの素材を用いた作品を中心に制作している。
田村の制作には、表現方法や素材が変化していく中でも一貫して、物質や存在との関係を見つめる姿勢がある。素材を単なる制作の手段として扱うのではなく、それぞれが持つ性質や時間の経過を受け入れながら、変化していくものとどのように関わることができるのかを探っている。
異なる媒体や素材を通して展開される作品は、固定された形態や完成された状態のみを提示するのではなく、素材の変化や鑑賞者、展示される場所との関係の中で、多様なあり方をひらいていく。

Artist Statement
I believe that all forms of existence—including matter, life, the body, and memory—exist in the world through relationships with one another, and that their ways of being are constantly changing. Existence continually moves toward different forms of being as its relationships shift and transform. For better or worse, existence may be forgotten, but it does not simply disappear. It continues by changing its relationships and moving into another way of being.
I work with materials such as plants, soil, rope, and cloth that change over time. My works undergo continual transformation through their relationships with viewers, places, and environments, opening themselves to different ways of being each time. I seek for the work itself to behave like soil: to receive what comes into contact with it, accumulate traces of relationships, and continue to change. Such changes are also part of the work, which exists not as a fixed state but as an ongoing process of changing relationships.
For me, change is not an end in itself, but a condition that allows existence to remain open to new relationships. Through experiencing our relationships with changing things, I believe we reconsider what we encounter and become aware of the time that flows through them.
When a work resonates with each viewer’s experiences and memories, familiar things and everyday landscapes may reveal themselves in slightly different ways. I hope my work can become an occasion for experiencing how existence, while changing, continues to connect us through its relationships.
私は、物質や生命、身体、記憶など、あらゆる存在は互いに関係し合いながら世界のなかにあり、そのあり方は絶えず移り変わっていると考えている。存在は関係を結び変えながら、異なるあり方へと移り続けていく。良くも悪くも、存在は忘れられることがあっても、消えることはない。それは関係を変えながら、別のあり方へと移り続ける。
私は植物や土、縄、布など、時間とともに変化する素材を用いて制作を行っている。作品は、鑑賞者や場所、環境との関係のなかで変化を重ねながら、その都度異なるあり方をひらいていく。私は作品そのものが土のように、さまざまなものを受け入れ、関係の痕跡を蓄積しながら変化し続ける存在であることを目指している。その変化もまた作品の一部であり、作品は固定された状態ではなく、関係を変えながら存在し続ける過程そのものとしてある。
私にとって変化は目的ではなく、存在が新たな関係へと開かれ続けるための条件である。私は、変化する存在との関係を経験するなかで、私たちは対象を捉え直し、そこに流れる時間を感じるのだと考えている。
作品がそれぞれの経験や記憶と響き合うことで、身近な存在や日常の風景が、これまでとは少し異なる姿を見せることがある。私は、作品を通して、存在が変化しながらも私たちとの関係を繋ぎ続けていることを感じるきっかけとなることを願っている。
