Biography
Yuta Tamura is an artist based in Kobe, Japan.
He primarily creates two-dimensional works, simplifying motifs and deliberately lowering their resolution, sometimes incorporating pixel-based imagery in the process.
Resonating with digital visual structures, his practice seeks to move beyond surface appearances to approach the essential aspects of his subjects and the notion of “existence” itself.
He currently presents his work regularly in exhibitions and art fairs in Japan and abroad.
Statement
“Flowers for Kaiju.”
Giving pearls to swine is meaningless. Adding wings to a tiger makes it more dangerous. But what would happen if you offered flowers to a kaiju?
I have always felt that there is an unknowable kaiju living inside me. There is no doubt that this kaiju is one aspect of myself, yet at the same time it feels like a completely separate being. At times, it grows larger within me. When that happens, I lose control, and everything inside me becomes chaotic. Because of this, the kaiju within me can be frightening. But at the same time, I believe it is precisely because this kaiju exists that I am able to create these works.
Perhaps each person carries their own kaiju inside. And when I look outward, it seems to me that enormous kaiju are also emerging within society. When these flowers reach those kaiju, the meaning of “Flowers for Kaiju” may reveal itself—for the individual, and for society as well.
