Statement  ー Flowers for Kaiju

— A vessel for prayer to soothe the chaos.

 

In Japan, we have proverbs like “Giving pearls to swine” and “Adding wings to a tiger.” But what would happen if we were to offer flowers to a kaiju?

I believe we all carry a kaiju within us—a chaotic energy that resides deep inside. When these creatures swell into malignant forms, they have been giving birth to division, discrimination, and violence. This cycle continues even at this very moment.

My work is to offer flowers to these internal monsters. These flowers serve as a “vessel for prayer”—a way to soothe the expanding chaos and find a path toward coexistence. By deliberately lowering the resolution or abstracting the motifs, I accept the uncertain contours of each kaiju as they are. This is my form of dialogue: offering flowers that remain open to every possibility, holding all potential forms within them.

When my flowers reach the kaiju within each individual and the colossal monsters that loom over our world, what kind of change will occur? Perhaps nothing will change at all. Yet, I will keep offering these flowers—so that these kaiju may exist not as threats that haunt us, but as energies that bless us, allowing us to live together in harmony.

 

Biography

Yuta Tamura is a visual artist based in Kobe, Japan. His practice centers on two-dimensional works that simplify motifs by deliberately lowering their resolution, often integrating digital visual structures. By deconstructing information, Yuta seeks to move beyond surface appearances to approach the essence of his subjects and the fundamental nature of “existence.”

Under the core theme of “Flowers for Kaiju,” he explores the act of painting as a means to soothe internal chaos and societal friction. His work serves as a silent dialogue, offering abstract, fluid “flowers” to the unknowable monsters within ourselves and the structures of the world. He regularly presents his work in exhibitions and art fairs both within Japan and internationally.

ステートメント　ー　『怪獣に花』

混沌をなだめる、祈りの器を。

 

日本には「豚に真珠」「虎に翼」というような諺がある。では、『怪獣に花』を捧げたなら、一体何が起こるのだろう。

私たちは私たちの内に怪獣を抱えているのではないだろうか。怪獣とは私たちの中にある混沌たるエネルギーである。そして時にこの怪獣たちが悪しき形で巨大化してしまった時、そこには分断や差別、暴力が生まれてきた。歴史を通じてそうであったように、そして今この瞬間もそうであるように。

私の仕事は、私たちの内にいる怪獣たちに花を捧げることだ。その花は、大きくなろうとする混沌をなだめ、彼らとうまく共生するための祈りの装置のようなものだ。その過程であえて解像度を落としたり、モチーフを抽象化するのは、それぞれの怪獣達の不確かな輪郭をそのまま受け入れ、そこに添える花もまた、あらゆる可能性を内包したまま差し出すための、私なりの対話の形だ。

私の仕事が、一人一人の内側に、またその先にあるこの世界の巨大怪獣たちに届いたとき、そこにはどんな変化が生まれるのだろうか。もしかしたら何も変わらないかもしれない。しかし私は怪獣たちが私たちを脅かす存在ではなく、私たちを祝福するエネルギーとして共に在れるよう、花を贈り続けたい。

兵庫県神戸市を拠点に活動するアーティスト。 主に平面作品を展開し、モチーフの簡略化や解像度を意図的に落とす手法を用いる。デジタル的な視覚構造と共鳴しながら、対象の表層を超えた本質や「存在」そのものへの接近を試みている。 自身の核となるテーマとして「Flowers for Kaiju（怪獣に花）」を掲げ、内なる混沌や社会的な歪みを、形を定めない抽象的な「花」によって鎮め、共生するための表現を追求している。 現在は国内および海外の展覧会やアートフェアで定期的に作品を発表している。
